Can’t change Password Policy Windows Server 2008


Running GPEDIT.msc: Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Account Policies > Password Policy

If you are unable to change any of these policies as they appear to be locked (the icons have a little padlock against them and when you open properties all the options are greyed out), the reason is simple

You are using LOCAL SECURITY POLICY, instead of Group policy Management Edit

(See screenshot below for clarification)

You need to make the change from the GPME and NOT from Local Security POLICY
