How To Export Exchange 2003 mailboxes into PST files

First grant full mailbox permissions to the mailbox (by default even domain administrators have deny access to mailboxes)
To do this open AD and select the user (e.g. John Doe) you want to grant the administrator full maibox rights. Example: Right click on John Doe and go to the Exchange Advanced
Select Mail box rights
Select Advanced
Select “DENY Domain ADministrators” and click on the edit button
Click the check box to allow mailbox full rights
Click OK until you are back to AD main screen
NOw you can migrate the mailbox by doing the following:
Download the exmerge program from Microsoft
(link here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=429163EC-DCDF-47DC-96DA-1C12D67327D5&displaylang=en )
Extract the 4 files into Exchsrvr/bin folder
Run the exmerge.exe and select the option for a two step procedure and select the users to export the mailboxes.
You are done!

Granting right to a specific mailbox

Note: You must have the appropriate Exchange administrative permissions to do so.

1.Start Active Directory Users and Computers.
2.On the View menu, ensure that the Advanced Features check box is selected.
Note: This is not necessary on Exchange Server 2003 because of the fact that the Exchange Advanced tab is exposed by default.

    1) Download “ExMerge” on to a Windows 2003 server with Exchange running on it.
    2) Copy “exchmem.dll” to the folder with the “ExMerge” contents.
    3) Give full perms to administrator or the user you logged in as to the server and mailboxes.
    a. In Exchange Manager, right click in server, properties and then security
    b. Uncheck inherit
    c. Add everyone, and give full control to everyone.
    d. Take ownership
This ensures that you have the require “send as” and “receive as”, but the step here are very insecure. While this is insecure, it does effectively allow a mailbox backup or each user for a system that is about to be decommissioned.

ExMerge is good but its available upto Exchange version 2003 and another issue is that ExMerge would not be able to work in online mode, so its better to go for any third party utility.
